Couldn’t have had a better first trip, flat calm seas, warm weather and tons of fish!  HOLD FAST started out with a bang!  Had Nick, Ed, Caryn and Rick on the boat today and they brought their A-game.

The first groundfish trip of the year is always sort of a guessing game.  You have a general idea of where the fish will be, but it takes a little searching to pin ’em down.  But, once we found the fish we stayed on ’em all day.  We had cod of all sizes coming over the rail.   Had to pick through the shorts, but in the end everyone went home with plenty of fish to fill the freezer.  When it was all said and done we probably had around 100 fish hit the deck, although not all legal size.

Fish are in the deep water right now, we’re talking 200-300 ft.  Both jigs and bait worked well.  Hopefully the haddock and pollock will join the mix soon.  Everyone aboard will have a sore back, arms and shoulders, from hauling up cod from the deep but it’s well worth it.

It’s gonna be an awesome year!  Come aboard, let’s pin down a date before things get too crazy!

Best,

Capt. Mike
