We had a tough trip today.  The spot where we have been catching fish was a dead zone, and we didn’t get our first bite until probably 9 or 10am.  But fortunately, what hit was a monster.  After the fish dumped a TON of line it headed straight down for the rocks.  We thought that we lost it, but after we spun the boat around and freed him up from the kelp covered rock she was stuck on, she started to cooperate and ease towards the boat.  This was one. fat. fish.  It weighed in at the 40 lb mark making it the biggest fish on the HOLD FAST yet this year.  We struggled for the rest of the day to raise fish.  The east wind seems to have put them in lock jaw mode. But, when monsters like that are around the lack of bites doesn’t bother me a bit.  Back at it tomorrow. (Note – we all took pics with the same fish…even cap needed a shot with this one.)
